Late Dr Olatunde Agbato
Sir Dr Olatunde Aiyedun Agbato, founder of Funtuna Ventures, a wholly owned subsidiary of Animal Care Services Konsult Nigeria Ltd, attended the University of Ibadan, where he graduated in 1975 with distinctions in Veterinary Pathology and Veterinary Parasitology, and received the Senate prize for academic excellence. He also holds a Masters Degree programme in Business Administration at the University of Lagos, making history as the first veterinarian in Nigeria with a Masters in Business Administration.
At the young age of 29, he started a partnership with his amiable wife, Mrs Olufunmilayo Agbato; a brilliant Poultry Technologist, with a mandate to provide veterinary consultancy services to poultry farmers. Their partnership birthed the then O.A & O.A associate which they started modestly in a one room apartment with an initial capital of ten thousand naira. It has now germinated into an oak and has adopted its present name, Animal Care Services Konsult Nig. Ltd (Animal Care). Animal Care today is a top player in the business of poultry farming, commercial feed-milling, procurement/distribution of innovative veterinary medicaments and vaccines, technical and extension services. Animal Care is also the parent company of Funtuna Ventures, the producer of the popular, premium, house-hold brand, Funtuna Eggs.
Sir Dr Olatunde Agbato was passionate about the growth of the veterinary profession and livestock industry in Nigeria and he supported the veterinary and agricultural faculties of several universities in many ways. He was a member of several professional and trade associations, such as the Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association, Poultry Association of Nigeria, US Poultry and Egg Association, Farm Management Association of Nigeria, the Nigerian Institute of Management and a host of others. In 2006, he became the first African member of the International Egg Commission (IEC), an elite global body for the Egg industry.
Over the years, his vision, dynamism and industrious thinking earned him recognition nationally and internationally. He was a three-time Farmer of the Year Award recipient on both state and national levels, and a Fellow of the Farm Management Association of Nigeria. Sir Dr. Olatunde Agbato also served as a two-term Chairman of the Poultry Association of Nigeria, Ogun Chapter. It was during his tenure that the Nigeria Poultry Show, Abeokuta, the first international Poultry Exposition in Nigeria was started.
